One thing I made, and a few things I'm going to make.

Look, the final version!
It's still not perfect but it's as good as I can do. I'm only an Illustrator newbie!

In other news, I've decided I'm going to do a micro-collection over summer, and I'll post photos of a couple of the pieces here when it's done!
I have all this beautiful fabric saved up from buying new stuff at work when it comes in, and I've just realised it's all basically in the same colour palette, so I might as well put some of the stuff I've learned this year to good use.
I'm going to try and do 2 or 3 looks, maybe 6 pieces all together, but I intend to make maybe 3 or 4 of each garment, so they'll also be for sale if anyone's interested - size 10 only though, cause I'm too lazy to grade.
I already have some pretty cool ideas; it's a summer/autumn feel with grey, blue-grey ('steel' grey), pale gold & silver, beige, and off-white, so all the pieces will be simple daywear that can easily be mixed and matched.
Update.

I can't actually remember the last time I made a really thorough LJ update, so I thought I'd just write down a couple of things that have been on my mind a bit lately. I think I need a bit of a change from thinking in my head, so I'm going to try and do it on paper (or a computer screen, which I suppose is the modern equivalent)!

There are a couple of things that I really want to do, but I just don't have the money for!
I interviewed with this NZ fabric company who are opening a store in Sydney, and the woman I'm in contact with keeps saying "we'll ring you in a week" when I email her, but I assume they're extremely busy with the set up etc. and each time I ask she says "in a week". The thing is, this time it's been two weeks since the date when she said she'd ring me, and I want to email her again and check what's going on, but I'm afraid I'll seem impatient and pushy. Which I am, but I don't want her to know that, she's supposed to be considering me for a job!
So I want to buy an overlocker, and a bike, and a Mac (but that's a half/half with my parents) and tickets to the Great Escape, but all these things are $180 or over and my bank balance is currently at $25.
I'm doing a bit of babysitting (tomorrow and Tuesday) but it's only casual and I'm really starting to need regular money.
It's frustrating, especially since I've been looking for a job since November, and this is the only thing I can really see myself enjoying, and I worked myself up about this job, and now I'm being left in the dark.
As soon as I get a job I'll start paying board, but that's something I kinda WANT to do, especially since...

The electricity bill for my household this quarter is the highest it's ever been. The reason? Me!
Since I've started uni, I spend a lot of time in front of the TV or with the radio on, doing cut and paste or sewing projects. When I'm doing that sort of work, I like to have something on in the background, but since I have less time at uni than I did at school, I'm home a lot more, with the TV and radio on (and when it's rainy and cold and dark, the lights and heater too).
So I'm going to have to practice doing my work without background noise, because it really is wasting a lot of electricity!

On that note, since I'm home every day for lunch (except Thursdays and Fridays sometimes, when I go out for lunch with other people) I'm eating a lot more. And I'm having snacks at weird times, since food is always right there in the kitchen!
So I have to start watching what I eat again, because I'm getting ridiculously chubby. I remember being a size 10! They were good times.
I'm also thinking of taking the dogs for longer walks than just to the park, so I'm going to look up a couple of routes that might be nice; longer walks would mean I could go down to the bay, and I want to see if it's possible to walk along the bay for a while or if the shore is mostly private property.

My sister just got a new computer for her room, and we're going to install The Sims 2 on it again, which I'm really excited about because it's the only game I play and am actually good at! I love PlayStation but am crap at it, so I'm looking forward to getting to play The Sims again. (Although the only thing I really use it for is making the people, then building and decorating their houses; then I get bored with them and create a new family, and build and decorate THEIR house. And so on and so forth.)

I really want to go to a good house party. Clubs are too loud, I'm so un-hardcore it's not even funny. I just want to sit, chillax, kick back with a glass of wine and chat to people, and listen to good music and maybe play a game of cards or something. And maybe later some terrible dancing, who knows.
Angela, Katie and I were thinking of having a combined 19th birthday party, but I'm not sure if that's gonna work out cause there is some contention on a couple of points, like the guestlist, and the location... yeah, so, pretty major points! I really don't have a solution there.
I would also love to meet some new people (not because I'm lacking friendship, but because I expected to be meeting new people at uni all the time, when in reality I've only met a few, since it turns out I spend so little time on campus). So I think I need to get out and join clubs or something, and I'm in the film club but they meet Wednesday nights which is a pretty impractical night for me, at least on last semester's timetable. We'll see how it turns out when uni goes back.

That's all for now.
I hope everyone out there on the interwebs is doing just fine and dandy.

Books.

So I just finished reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Usually when I finish a good novel I get a sort of still, pensive feeling for a while, and think about the book and life and the universe and all that. But it'll only really last a couple of hours.

The one time it did last a lot longer was after finishing Ender's Game. That was like three whole days of pensive. So I hope I get a couple of days out of Solitude. I think it's another new favourite (also, I define favourites by read-again-ability, not just likeability).

... it was a REALLY good book.

People are idiots.

Stuff like this seriously shits me.

People, TRAIN YOUR DOGS.
Most dog owners are responsible, caring people, who understand that to own dogs in the suburbs (or anywhere, for that matter) requires extensive obedience training.
But some people are stupid, and think that because the dogs respond fine to adults (bigger, authority figures) they'll also respond in the same way to children - but think about it, children are small and weak, and the dogs often believe that the child is acting out of "rank" in the family "pack".
Children also should be "trained" or taught to treat dogs with caution and not as toys.
That said, big or aggressive dogs should always, ALWAYS be muzzled when around children - or anyone unfamiliar, for that matter. Problems of biting and aggressiveness can be trained out only to some extent. Instinct plays a huge part when dogs are faced with an unfamiliar or frightening situation - training can only prepare dogs for certain scenarios. Actions outside of training are determined by instinct and natural impulses.
The other half of the story usually goes that the child was teasing or taunting the dog, and the dog, frightened, lashed out at the child.
Or in the case of the husky that killed that baby a while back, the baby was perceived as an unfamiliar threat when the dog was abruptly reintroduced to the household. AND THE BABY WAS LEFT ALONE IN A ROOM THAT THE DOG HAD ACCESS TO!

Ugh.

Flying!

Time flies by now that I'm only doing 13.5 hours at my educational institution. The weeks seem shorter, and I forget how long it's been since I've actually seen some of my friends - too long, if you ask me. A week is too long. Two weeks is too long. Three weeks is much too long! But it really only seems like yesterday.

Also, I spend almost as much time travelling as I do listening/watching/drawing, but if I do my reading on the train then I have more free time when I get home.
I'm saving money, too, because I'm home for lunch every day.

Here's my timetable:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

RDP Lecture
9-10am

RDP Tutorial
10-11.30am

Patternmaking
9-11am

TF Lecture
1-2pm

Illustration
11.30am-1.30pm

Construction
11am-1pm

Design Studio
2.30-4.30pm

Computing
2-4pm

They should call my degree B Collage in Cutting and Pasting. But I'm good at leafing through magazines and tearing out things I like, so it suits me just fine.
I've met some cool people and my classes are really good. Although it's harder now to make friends, cause after a few weeks you have no excuse not to remember someone's name, but there are very few other conversation topics you can open with. It's difficult after six years of knowing everyone you passed in the corridors!

I SPY: Beth's Room

This post goes out to all you Sydney kids who used to order those I SPY books from Scholastic.

This is a picture of my floor. Today's chore is to clean it, but I just thought I'd document the bombsite, as evidence that I am not always neat and tidy. In fact this photo suggests I am anything but.

Your job is to spot:
- my zombie dog
- the doll from "Lift Off"
- the university offers SMH liftout
- 3 Sportsgirl bags
- 2 pairs of shoes
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
- pair of scissors
- $21.25 worth of 10c and 5c coins
- 57,089 pens (and counting)

I can't sleep.

So I'm on here and I'm going to do one of those stupid meme thingies, where you say one honest thing each to six people, without naming who they are.
I'm sorry that the one post a day thing didn't work out, but things are always going to come up and honestly, is being that dedicated to a website really a good thing?

Anyway here goes (wow this takes me back):

I like you a lot, and would love to be much closer to you. I wish you'd talk to me; I'm not that frightening, am I?

I admire your attitude towards life and your panache; you are courageous and effervescent. I'm sorry for misleading you in the past. I could never say anything bad about you that wasn't a lie. I want to stay your friend for a long time.

I secretly (well, maybe not so secretly) want to jump you.

So... what do you think about me? I always feel tres awkward around you, cause I can't decide whether we're cool or whether you just assume I'm a total spazz.

I think nothing of you. My life would not change one iota if I had never met you.

I miss you.

EDIT: I just remembered that all these people are sposed to be on your flist! Safe to say they're not, most of them don't have LJ anyhow.

Whenever there's a thunder storm, I get a headache. I know when it's coming cause my headache gets worse as the storm gets closer. Hot, summer thunderstorms high up on my forehead, freezing wet winter storms are along my left eyebrow.
